A Brief History
In the Early 1980s: the original concept, known as
Phone- A- Float Plan, was developed by the World Yacht Club In Miami,
Florida It was created for club members traveling by boat from Florida,
back and forth, across the gulf stream to and from the Bahamas.
Then in 1988, the U.S. Coast Guard
requested that the Float Plan filing system be expanded and made available
to all recreational boaters.
In 1994 this new system was introduced to the Bahamas
government and the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRSA), who
immediately endorsed it.
In 1996 flight plans for private air craft
were now being accepted.
Then in March, 1999: the Canadian Coast Guard decided that
implementing the Float Plans could save Canadian lives.
Next in 2001, Float Plan Registration added Safety
Trip Plan for travelers on land. Fishermen,Hikers,Snowmobilers,
ATVers,Hunters, RVers,etc.
In 2006: The Advance Vessel Alert System was
developed known as” AVA” It advises countries
of boaters that are approaching their shores in advance, saving the
boaters wait time at the dock.
2007 storage of medical records for the use by first responders
was added to the system.
Now in 2008 the service name Safety Trip Plan
takes in all of the above and is constantly being expanded and updated
with new features. All included in your registration price.
